Celebrate this Earth Day in Austin with our UO Outside Celebration — featuring a special performance at 4pm by Austin-based The Wild Now, a buzzy, indie-pop two-piece consisting of Drew Walker (guitar) and Taylor Baker (vocals).
With a wildly successful EP under their belt entitled Tides, the two have been working hard with Austin producer David Beck on a new release, which they debuted during SXSW 2017 and will officially release on May 19. You can expect an array of "driving synths and jungle disco-esque guitar work" building on the band’s previous dreamy, island indie pop sound.
Leading up to this weekend's show, we sat down with the duo to talk more about their backgrounds, favorite musicians, and (most importantly!), top pick for queso in town.

What’s each of your musical backgrounds? How long have you been in Austin?
Taylor: I started playing guitar after high school. I did some traveling to New Zealand and Australia and brought my guitar, which inspired me to start writing songs. I was born and raised in Austin, and Drew is from Kemah, which is a city outside of Houston.
Drew: I've been playing trumpet and guitar since I was 11, and was in the school band + a few other bands throughout the years.
We know that you met at a Local Natives show a few years back… what kind of music are you listening to when you’re not working on your own? Any guilty pleasures?
Anderson Paak, Sylvan Esso, and Marian Hill are some of our favorites lately. No musical guilty pleasures....but ice cream and HBO are definitely on the list.
Can you remember back to your first concert? Who did you see and where?
Taylor: Backstreet Boys at Bass Concert Hall in Austin
Drew: Bon Jovi at the Houston Rodeo
Dream venue on your wish-list (Austin or elsewhere)…
Red Rocks in Colorado and ACL Live in Austin.
What should we expect from your second EP release in May? Give us a preview!
There's more electronic elements and sounds; we're always trying to push our boundaries and create music that is transformational. Since our previous EP, we've been cultivating a unique sound and it's exciting to really be coming into that and to establish our own vibe.
I’m a visitor… where do I find the best queso in Austin?
Torchy's, hands down.
